We are Cider. We’re the team responsible for Visual Studio’s experience for developing WPF and Silverlight applications. Our challenge, our charter, and our team are all expanding. Our goals cover several things. Building a RAD designer for WPF and Silverlight that is familiar to developers. Delivering a rich and powerful markup editing and navigation experience for XAML. Developing an architecture through which partners and ISVs can implement rich design-time support for their components. All with seamless integration into Visual Studio. Our long term mission is to innovate the tools, development processes, and user experiences for our customers as they use VS to create future generations of rich client applications using WPF and Silverlight.

Windows Presentation Foundation
Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) is a next-generation presentation framework for building Windows client applications with visually stunning user experiences. The core of WPF is a resolution-independent and vector-based rendering engine that is built to take advantage of modern graphics hardware. WPF extends the core with a comprehensive set of application-development features that include Extensible Application Markup Language (XAML), controls, data binding, layout, 2-D and 3-D graphics, animation, styles, templates, documents, media, text, and typography.
Last fall we shipped .NET Framework 3.5 and are just finishing up on our .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 release, enabling a wave of cool applications for Windows. We are looking for strong professionals to shape future releases of the platform for developing the next generation of Windows applications and content. As we are getting ready to plan our next release, our group's continuing mission is to transform the development experience and to leverage the immense power of modern hardware to deliver new and compelling features to the developer community and to spark a new wave of application innovation.

UI Frameworks & Services
The UI Framework and Services team - part of the .NET Developer Platform group, and owners of ASP.NET, ASP.NET AJAX, and Windows Forms - is kicking off a new project that will be at the heart of the developer experience for building Rich Internet Applications on Microsoft’s .NET Client platform. The goal of the project is to deliver a dramatically productive and simple experience that enables RIA developers – a key developer market – to easily build rich and powerful data-driven applications on .NET. The project will build on the huge customer excitement in Silverlight and WPF, and the success of ASP.NET, to deliver an unparalleled client developer story.
