How Do I: Winforms, A to Z, Part 1

In this two-part video series, Pat Tormey shows how to build and deploy a complete Windows Forms SQL Express Application in less than 30 minutes, with reports!

In this part, "How Do I: Windows Forms, A to Z, Part 1", he shows how to create a MDI form, add an About Box and a Login form, how to configure application properties, and how to wire up application events.

In "How Do I: Windows Forms, A to Z, Part 2", he shows how to add grid controls, how to bind those controls to a data source, how to generate reports, how to digitally sign the application, and, lastly, how to deploy the application using ClickOnce Deployment.

Hi.

Did you write this in VS2008? I have VS2005 and when I am trying to open the sample code I get this: "The selected file is a solution file, but was created by a newer version of this application and connot be opened."

Is there footage missing here? As part 2 begins, there is code in the project that we didn't see you implement in part 1.

Yes All the current videos are in VS 2008 (It was a command decision.. )

But that said, the new TableAdapter Manager alone is worth the switch. It manages data relationships correctly for Adds, updates, edits and deletes!

The c# source file asks for a password for the file "HDI_Sn.pfx". Is there a way to go around this or to include a version that doesn't require this?

Could you possible talk any faster?

Where did you get the login form?  I just installed the product and I don't have any templates.  If you selected your login form from the templates, where did you get them?

And if you could just speak a little faster, I'd be completely lost.

This looks like an excellent series, but as a complete winforms novice I have to agree it needs some work. I was not able to follow along at all as I didnt have a login form. The project doesn't not see that I have an about box even though I followed the example to the letter.

I understand that when you're an expert at something it can be very easy to forget that your audience has to told every single step involved. For example, it took me a few minutes to find how to bring up the project properties.

Excellent video!, I was trying to figure it out how to make the things done in Windows Form, and my programs was getting complicated in doing the same things this video shows how to accomplish in very simple ways. In only 30 minutes, it shows the basic techniques and tricks. The only problem is that the suppose to be 30 minutes video, lasts only 12. Where are the 18 minutes missing? You can see a very big and important gap between the first part and the second part. How to make the splash screen, the main form that shows the data, the link to the data, etc?. Please I am very interested, in the missing middle part, the Part 1½!

same comment that didn't appear to be answers as bjrh61d, vidoe seems to be missing from end of part one to the beginning of part 2.  Where can we find the lost video?
