Hi Navin,

Do you currently have the other content (photo titles, descriptions, tags, etc.) in an RSS feed or is this information stored elsewhere? The reason I ask is that definitely the simplest way to do this (if you already have an RSS feed with the other information) would be to just put the local path to the photo in the RSS feed instead of a URL to a web address. This should work fine I believe.

If you're looking to avoid the RSS feed altogether, then that will be a little more difficult, since photoSuru is built on the SCE Starter Kit framework which requires that incoming data is presented in a particular (modified RSS feed) format in order to display it. You could use the photoSuru UI and modify the back-end to replace the SCE foundation with your own data framework that doesn't rely on RSS, but that will be a LOT of work and you won't be able to easily update to newer versions of the ScePhotoViewer starter kit. So my recommendation is to work within the confines of RSS if at all possible. The easiest way to start is to take a copy of the sample design feed and modify the contents to point to your local photos and other content.

Hi Samantha

Just wondering if it is possible to load the images from local drive rather than rss.

For ex:

if we have all our imaages in c:\images-folder\

Is it possible to look at these using Photosuru.

If not is there any work around to accomplish this.

Hi CNB,

The 4 projects you are seeing are included in the reference dlls so you shouldn't need the projects for them. We didn't ship the projects for those dlls because developers should never make any changes to that code (otherwise, it breaks our ability to update the starter kit without breaking your application). If you're interested in seeing the source code from any of the reference dlls, you should be able to use reflection to do so (try using a tool such as .NET Reflector).

Are you still encountering the issue with the design data not showing? If so, would you mind emailing me your log.txt so that we can take a look at what the problem might be? On Vista, the log is stored at "C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\[CompanyName]\[ApplicationName]\log.txt" and on XP it should be at "C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Local Settings\Application Data\[CompanyName]\[ApplicationName]\log.txt." (Note that the AppData folder is hidden and [CompanyName] and [ApplicationName] are probably SceReaderProject1 unless you changed this in the settings.) You can email the file to me at samandATmicrosoftDOTcom.

The SCE Starter Kit and photoSuru's ScePhotoViewer are provided as free resources to help developers get started building syndicated content experiences in WPF. You are more than welcome to modify and use the source code of these SDKs for deployment of a commercial product. You can find a copy of the license in the installer for that pops up when you click on any of the links on this page: windowsclient.net/.../sce-install.aspx.

The SceReader is designed to not use any scrollbars, as scrollbars have been shown to have low usability. Instead, I recommend that content provider break down their feed into multiple smaller sections which will allow you to display all or most of the stories on one screen. This will also increase the performance of the application since it will have less data to sync on the main page.

Hi Kornhaas,

This is a known issue with the projects. The ScePhotoViewer and SceReader projects make liberal use of ResourceDictionaries, which make it difficult to view the xaml files in the design tools (such as Blend and the Visual Studio designer). You should be able to view the XAML markup, but the design surface will not load a visual. There's not really a workaround for this issue at this time. You'll just need to edit the xaml and then run the project to see what the changes look like.

I didn't found any information about the code distribution license for SCE and PhotoSuru. Could you please give more details about license of this products?

Additionally, please confirm that I can modify and use code of SCE and PhotoSuru for development of a commercial product.

I would like to add a ScrollViewer to the SectionFront display of the SCE Reader Sample so that all of the stories in the section can be browsed. (When there are too many stories in the section, the only way to navigate to them is through the Navigation Menu). I tried adding a ScrollViewer in the SectionFront_1Col ControlTemplate in DefaultSectionFrontResources.xaml, but the stories in the section will not scroll.

Is there a way to scroll the SectionFront display. Thanks!

Hello,

I downloaded the starter kit for Visual studio 2008 from photoSuru. I can compile the application and run the application. But if I try to open the MainPage.xaml in Vs the I received the message:

The document contains errors

the debug error is :

Error 2 The application XAML file failed to load. Fix errors in the application XAML before opening other XAML files. D:\ScePhotoViewer\ScePhotoViewer\ScePhotoViewer\ScePhotoViewer\Pages\MainPage.xaml 16 5 ScePhotoViewer

Following line is marked in the source :

Background="{StaticResource Background_ChromeDefault}"

can somebody help me ??

Hello Samantha,

I downloaded the starter kit for visual studio 2008 and 2005. They both compile well and run but they both return and error as far as caching the data (I am running the project in debug mode and have made no changes to the design Uri information; but the masterfeed.xml does not seem to be found by the app)

However, when I watch your video, you have 4 projects in your solution including the one for the ReaderDesignData ( I only have the reference to the dll). I only have 1 project, the ReaderProjectSample wiht the source code

Where can I find the other projects source code?

Hi Aggie85,

The Design Feed was created to give a jump start to designers/developers with the look and feel for their app w/out waiting for a real feed of their own to be developed. We accomplished this by including the design feed as an embedded resource included in the app when running debug. Some features (like the Reading List) need to consume a real feed in order to work.

As for the ads not showing up, it looks like this is a bug that we missed. Ads do work with a real feed, however.

My suggestion is to use the Design feed as a guide to get started, but it is important to get a real feed (even if it is static) up and running to take advantage of all of the features. The resources available under the Data Feeds section of the Getting Started page will help you get up and running with your own feed: windowsclient.net/.../sce-datafeeds.aspx

I'm new to SCE. I have successfully installed the Beta 2 release and built a sample reader using the template, but I am having a few problems just using the Design feed. When I drag an article to the Reading List, the list shows my article, but when I click on the article from the Reading List a blank screen appears. The second problem I have is that none of the adds show up in the articles. A space for the add appears, but no picture is shown. Any ideas about what might be wrong with my setup?

I'm having similar problems. The BaseResources.xaml file is coming up with "Property 'Path' does not have a value" on the DataContext for the Border under the thumbnail templates.

When I run the photoviewer, no photos are shown at all, just the shell of the app with no content.

A colleague of mine has the sample code and it all runs fine on his machine so I'm not sure what I'm missing here?

Update:

Yesterday I tried to open MainPage.xaml with Blend 3 Preview and and again Blend crashed. This time on a PC with Windows 7 beta (32bit version).
